Gill Plumbing Services provides professional shower repairs, replacements and leak investigations across South East London and Bromley.
We specialise in diagnosing and repairing faulty shower valves, thermostatic cartridges, leaking shower trays, damaged enclosures, shower wastes and concealed plumbing connections.
From dripping shower valves and temperature control problems to hidden leaks causing damp walls and damaged ceilings, we focus on identifying the underlying fault and recommending a reliable, long-lasting solution.
Where practical, we aim to repair existing shower components rather than recommend unnecessary replacements.

Faulty thermostatic and flow controls required a complete concealed shower valve replacement. With suitable spare parts unavailable, we carefully opened the tiled wall to access the plumbing and replace the valve.

At this Tower Bridge property, we accessed the concealed shower plumbing from behind the bathroom wall. This allowed us to replace the shower valve and its connections without disturbing the shower-side tiles.

During a shower valve repair in Dulwich, we replaced the thermostatic cartridge and cleaned debris from the inlet filters. Sediment had accumulated inside the valve, potentially affecting its performance. Cleaning the filters and replacing the cartridge helped restore proper shower operation.

Cracked, detached or incorrectly applied silicone can allow water to escape around shower trays and enclosures. In some framed enclosures, sealing the wrong joints can also trap water and prevent it draining back into the tray. We inspect the sealing arrangement and identify where repairs are required.
Water entering beneath a shower can damage flooring, tile adhesive and surrounding finishes. Loose tiles, cracked grout, swelling timber or damp skirting boards may indicate a moisture problem. We investigate the source before recommending repairs.
A shower tray that moves underfoot may have inadequate support or a deteriorated base. Movement can damage the seals around the tray and contribute to leaks. Cracked trays may require specialist repair or replacement, depending on the material and extent of damage.
Worn seals, incorrect silicone application, poor frame alignment or obstructed drainage paths can allow water to escape from a shower enclosure. We assess the installation and repair or replace suitable components in accordance with the manufacturer's guidance.
Sliding shower doors may become stiff, noisy or misaligned when rollers wear out. Hinged doors can also develop closing or alignment problems. Where parts are available, we can replace faulty components and adjust the door to restore smooth operation and proper closure.
Leaks can develop around shower traps, waste connections, concealed valves and pipe fittings. Water damage may appear on nearby walls, floors or ceilings. We carry out a systematic investigation to identify the likely source and recommend the appropriate repair.
We attended a property near Tower Bridge after the customer noticed loose and broken floor tiles around the shower and suspected a hidden water leak.
During our investigation, we lifted sections of the flooring and discovered extensive water damage beneath the shower. The source was a small crack around the neck of the shower waste fitting, which was not immediately visible during a normal visual inspection.
Each time the shower was used, water escaped into the timber subfloor. Over time, the moisture caused deterioration and rot, compromising the support beneath the shower tray and contributing to movement and failure of the silicone seals. Loose and broken floor tiles and mould growth were also present.
The damage required removal and replacement of the affected subfloor to provide a sound base for the shower area.
The lesson: Even a small, concealed shower leak can lead to extensive damage if left unresolved. Early investigation of loose tiles, failing silicone seals or unexplained dampness can help prevent further deterioration.

Yes, in many cases. If compatible spare parts are available, a faulty thermostatic or flow-control cartridge may be replaced through the front of the shower valve without disturbing the tiles. If the entire valve requires replacement, access may sometimes be possible from behind the wall. We assess the installation and explain the options before proceeding.
A small amount of water draining from the shower head after use is normal. However, persistent dripping may indicate limescale, debris, worn seals or a flow-control valve that is not closing properly. Depending on the model and condition, cleaning, servicing or replacing the relevant cartridge may resolve the problem.
Fluctuating or insufficient hot water can result from a faulty thermostatic cartridge, limescale, blocked inlet filters, unbalanced water pressures or problems with the hot water supply. We investigate the shower controls and supply conditions before recommending repairs, as replacing the cartridge will not resolve every temperature problem.
Often, yes. Many thermostatic shower valves have replaceable cartridges. The correct part depends on the manufacturer, model and age of the valve. We inspect the existing components and identify suitable replacement parts where available. This can restore temperature control without replacing the complete shower valve or disturbing the surrounding tiles.
Movement under a person's weight can indicate inadequate tray support, damaged flooring or loose supporting components. This movement may open gaps around silicone seals and allow water to escape. However, leaks can also originate from the waste connection or other fittings. We inspect the tray, supports, seals and drainage before recommending repairs.
Weak shower flow may be caused by limescale, blocked shower heads, restricted inlet filters, worn valve components or inadequate water supply pressure. Shower pumps and hot water systems can also affect performance. We check the likely restrictions and supply conditions to identify whether cleaning, servicing or component replacement is appropriate.
Warning signs include swollen skirting boards, loose tiles, damp patches, persistent musty smells, recurring mould and deteriorating silicone around the shower. Silverfish or other moisture-loving insects may also indicate damp conditions. These symptoms do not necessarily mean there is an active plumbing leak; condensation, poor ventilation or previous water damage can cause similar problems. If several signs appear together, particularly around the shower tray, we recommend investigating the source before further damage develops.
Applying fresh silicone over old, damaged or mouldy sealant is not a reliable way to stop a shower leak. The new sealant may not bond properly, allowing water to continue penetrating behind the joint. For a lasting repair, failed silicone should normally be removed, the surfaces cleaned and dried, and suitable sanitary sealant applied correctly. If the leak is caused by a cracked waste fitting, loose shower tray or faulty plumbing connection, resealing alone will not resolve it.
